Microneedling: The All-Natural Solution for Taking Years Off Your Face

Microneedling was first used in 1995 by plastic surgeons to improve the appearance of scars. It’s since received accolades from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as an effective treatment for scars and stretch marks as well as fine lines and wrinkles, decreased skin tone, and other signs of aging.

At Revive Medical Aesthetics, our skin care specialists are committed to providing the safest, most effective aesthetic services available at our state-of-the-art medical spa in Longview, Washington.

Here’s why medical grade microneedling with the Eclipse MicroPen® meets our exacting standards for skin rejuvenation therapies that work.

Microneedling effects on aging skin

Collagen, the most abundant protein in your body, is one of the major building blocks of bones, muscles, ligaments, and skin. Your body also uses collagen to repair and rebuild tissue when you’ve sustained an injury, such as cuts or abrasions to your skin.

It’s a simple fact that as you age your body slows its production of certain substances like collagen. Microneedling encourages your body to boost its natural collagen production.

The increased level of collagen accelerates the formation of new skin cells. This action leads to tighter, smoother, more youthful appearing skin.

What do you treat with microneedling?

Here at Revive Medical Aesthetics, we’ve seen truly effective results in using microneedling for a variety of cosmetic issues, including:

And while it’s traditionally used on the face, microneedling is also effective at reducing or correcting the appearance of skin imperfections in other areas, such as stretch marks on your arms, abdomen, and thighs.

How does microneedling boost collagen production?

The tiny, microneedles used during the treatment injure your skin just enough to trigger a natural healing response from your body, which includes increased collagen production in the area of injury.

At the surface, the hair-size “wounds” seal almost immediately but collagen continues its internal action of rebuilding, smoothing, and tightening your skin for up to six months following a treatment.

And don’t just take our word for it. The comprehensive literature review posted by NIH in 2018 notes that “controlled dermal wounding and stimulation of the wound healing cascade enhances collagen production and is likely responsible” for the obvious improvements noted after microneedling.

How long does microneedling take?

At Revive Medical Aesthetics, we use the Eclipse MicroPen® for microneedling procedures. Because the MicroPen is automated, treatments are quick, typically lasting 15-30 minutes.

The design of this professional-grade device also helps ensure its safety and effectiveness while providing more evenly spaced punctures than derma rollers and other needling appliances. This greatly speeds up the treatment process and enhances the collagen-boosting effects of microneedling.

Does microneedling hurt?

Most of our clients report minimal to no discomfort during a microneedling treatment. Needles are part of the process, but those used in the MicroPen are exceptionally small and fine. At Revive Medical Aesthetics, we also apply a topical medicine to numb the targeted skin before beginning a session.

Afterward, you can expect slight redness in the treatment area, appearing much like a mild sunburn, that fades quickly. We do offer products at Revive that help soothe even this slight irritation. Otherwise, there’s no downtime required after microneedling, which makes it very convenient.
