Sculptra

Get a smoother facial appearance and more volume with dermal filler, Sculptra Aesthetic. Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, Sculptra helps stimulate the body’s collagen production. Collagen can help restore structure and volume to the skin, decreasing problems like laxity and wrinkles. The injection is intended to work gradually over time to build up a more youthful-looking appearance. At Revive, we provide high-quality injectables to give you the confidence you need.

What is Sculptra Aesthetic?

Sculptra is an FDA-approved injectable used worldwide since 1999! It can replace collagen lost through aging. Sculptra Aesthetic is used to improve mild to deep facial wrinkles and folds. Some of these wrinkles that may improve include smile lines (nasolabial folds), marionette lines (laugh lines) and chin wrinkles. Decreasing the appearance of these wrinkles can make you appear more youthful.

Why is Sculptra Different Than Other Collagen Therapies?

In the pursuit of the fountain of youth, people go great lengths to recreate a younger version of themselves. They may purchase collagen creams that claim to deliver collagen into the skin or over-the-counter collagen supplements that claim to nourish the skin from within. The efficacy of collagen delivery between these two methods is still inconclusive; since collagen is a protein in the form of a large molecule, it neither penetrates the skin topically nor stays intact inside the digestive system. Because of the nature of collagen, Sculptra Aesthetic is one of a few treatments that can actually trigger collagen growth that lasts and benefits the skin—directly.

How is this Sculptra Different From Neurotoxins?

Many injectables purport to help wrinkles go away, but every injectable performs a different function. Two categories of injectables have fundamentally different mechanisms of action: dermal fillers and neurotoxins. Dermal fillers intend to fill the skin with beneficial skin components such as hyaluronic acid (which holds water) and collagen (like Sculptra). They work by pushing up skin where wrinkles are prominent, helping to smooth and reduce wrinkles' appearance from the inside out. On the other hand, neurotoxins temporarily paralyze the muscles that contract to create wrinkles, such as frown lines and glabellar lines. By targeting the underlying muscle, neurotoxins such as BOTOX Cosmetic and Dysport create a smoother appearance so muscles do not lend an uneven appearance to the skin.

How Many Treatments Do I Need?

In order to see transformative results from Sculptra Aesthetic, we recommend a combination of three injections over three to four months. Results may last up to two years. Typically, only one treatment regimen (including the three injections) is recommended. Your treatment protocol will vary.

How Does Sculptra Regenerate Collagen Over Time?

Sculptra is a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) collagen stimulator. As the skin absorbs the PLLA microparticles over time, collagen begins to better support the existing skin. The skin may appear to regain volume it had lost and fullness where wrinkles otherwise show. By working inside the deep dermis, collagen regrowth occurs where it can make a difference, activating inside the skin structure. The particles help create a matrix for the growth of collagen strands that lend support to the skin.

Why Does Sculptra Work Gradually?

Sculptra is composed of a biocompatible yet synthetic material, poly-L-lactic acid, that is often found in dissolvable stitches. Your body takes time to naturally absorb it. However, you should witness a result the same day you receive your treatment—sometimes, the same-day result is due in great part to swelling. The upside? Sculptra Aesthetic can continue to create results over time!

How Do I Care for My Skin After the Procedure?

Revive Wellness & Medical Aesthetics will provide some instructions to care for your skin after a treatment. Instructions include massaging regularly to help distribute the product and avoid the formation of lumps. Galderma (the manufacturer) recommends massaging the treated area for 5 minutes 5 times per day for 5 days after the treatment. You may wish to apply ice within the first day after treatment to minimize swelling. The swelling may create a false effect of over-correction; keep in mind the swelling will go down to a more realistic result.

What are Side Effects?

Injection of Sculptra Aesthetic can result in a number of side effects which include injection site swelling, tenderness, pain, redness, bruising, itching, bleeding, and lumps. Larger lumps with inflammation or skin discoloration may occur but are less common. You can expect most of these side effects to go away within a few hours to a few days, on average. When a trained provider performs the injection, this treatment is safe.

Who Should Avoid Treatment?

If you have an active infection or inflammation in the treatment area or a history of keloid formation or hypertrophic scarring, you may be excluded from treatment. If you are pregnant, lactating, breastfeeding or a minor, it may be best to avoid Sculptra Aesthetic. Consult with our medical professionals, specifically trained on Sculptra Aesthetic, to discuss whether this treatment protocol is right for you.

What is Treatment Like?

After a consultation to determine your medical history and if the treatment is right for you, we will prepare you by removing your make-up, sunscreen or any product on the face. The provider will decide a grid for each wrinkle that can be treated with Sculptra and clean the area with an antiseptic. After deciding the treatment areas, the provider will inject small amounts at a time using a fine needle in a grid pattern. Then, she will massage the treated area to distribute the product. You will apply an ice pack to help reduce swelling if needed.
