Titan Facelift

Cosmetic Plastic Surgery and Rejuvenating Skin Care

The Titan Facelift uses infrared light to tighten skin without surgery. It uses a safe, infrared spectrum of light that is delivered to the dermis. (The dermis is the layer of skin well below the outer skin surface). There is no downtime to heal as there is no external injury to the skin. There are no external wounds to care for. A person can return to work right after the procedure.

We see many cosmetic patients that are not ready for cosmetic surgery. Some do not want to have invasive surgery. Others may want to delay any surgical intervention for as long as possible. Titan Laser Facelift offers an excellent option for all of these types of people. It is not invasive. It is not a surgery, yet it tightens the skin and improves appearance.

How Does the Titan Laser Work?

The Titan Facelift laser works by having its light react with the water that is in the deep layers of the skin (dermis). The energy released between the light and the water causes the water to heat up. The rise of the skin’s temperature is controlled. It is only raised to a temperature that will cause collagen contraction. (Collagen is a type of protein in the skin. It helps the skin stay strong and supple.) The heat from the laser will cause immediate collagen contraction within the dermis of the skin.

While this happens, the skin’s surface layer (the epidermis) is protected through constant cooling with the Titan handpiece. So Titan works on the deeper skin layers while leaving the top layers of the skin alone. Titan facelift laser uses light energy because it gives a more uniform distribution of energy than other sources such as RF (radio frequency). This is better for heating the deep dermis.

What Areas Respond Best to the Titan Laser Procedure?

There are many areas of the body that may have loose skin. Loose skin on the abdomen, on the back of the upper arm, along the jawline and under the chin have all responded well to the procedure. The face is the most commonly treated area, especially for the improvement of loose skin along the jawline and neck. That is why it is called the laser facelift!

Titan can be used on the stomach to tighten skin as well. However, it is important to note that it will treat loose skin but not stretch marks. (Laser treatments are not used for stretch marks).

Patients have been successfully treated on many areas on the body where the skin is lax; however, there is a limit to how much the Titan will correct. Severely aged skin with photodamage and extreme wrinkling would not be considered candidates for the Titan facelift laser procedure.

Who Can be Treated with Titan Facelift?

Since the Titan procedure heats the tissue under the skin’s surface, patients of any skin type can have it done. The quality of the skin and the degree of skin laxity will affect success. If the skin has relaxed too much, a patient may be better served with another procedure. This is why realistic expectations are important to have. People with a little loose skin under the chin and on the neck will respond the best to the Titan laser lift. Patients with very loose skin or with more demanding expectations are still better served by more traditional means of plastic surgery and facelifting. Patients who have a great deal of fatty tissue cannot expect to have the skin tighten in the neck or the back of the arms.

When will the Results be Noticeable? How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Some cosmetic patients with minimal degrees of laxity in the face and neck will see results right away. However, for most patients with more laxity, the results are more gradual.

This is because, over time, new collagen growth beneath the skin surface results in more skin tightening. Skin and dermal growth, including collagen, takes time. A person can expect to see more improvement over a three to six month period as new collagen is formed and the skin tightens. This time frame is too long for some. But for most of the educated and informed patients, it is fine. There is no skin loss or peeling so it does not seem like treatment was done. For some, this is best because there is no downtime or time to heal. For those who want to see and feel like they had something done, this may not be best. To see and feel a change, the Fraxel will yield more of an immediately visible change. When using Titan, having one to three treatments has produced great results for many patients. During your consult, you will be advised on the number and frequency of treatments recommended for optimal results. In time you will see a more youthful complexion. You will have fewer lines and folds. The skin will be tightened.

What do Treatments Feel Like? What Happens After Treatment? Any Side Effects?

The Titan procedure is uncomfortable. With each Titan light pulse, you will feel a brief heating sensation. The laser light is adjustable; during the first few pulses of light, it will be changed to a level that you can handle. It is a good idea to take Tylenol prior to the procedure. However, some people do not need any pre-medication and can handle the laser at its highest settings without too much pain. Immediately after the treatment, you may notice some redness and mild swelling in the treated area. Both of these side effects should go away within a few hours. Please visit the office for complete information on the benefits and risks of treatment.

Has the Titan Laser Procedure been Tested and Approved?

The Titan facelift has been carefully studied in clinics around the world. It is cleared to treat wrinkles in Europe and in the USA. It is also cleared for general dermatologic use in Canada. In the US, it is cleared for topical heating to increase local tissue temperatures and circulation. Titan laser is not recommended for the treatment of skin cancers.
