Botox Q & A

What is Botox?

Botox is a cosmetic injectable with a wide range of applications. The main ingredient in each vial of Botox is called botulinum toxin. It comes from a form of bacteria called clostridium botulinum, and it reduces your muscle activity when injected in small amounts.

At Revive Medical Aesthetics, the team has the training to administer Botox injections carefully to target specific muscles while avoiding those around them. That means that you won’t appear frozen or paralyzed as the result of your injections, but you see the improvements that you want.

Revive Medical Aesthetics also offers Dysport® injections, a similar treatment to Botox for wrinkles and fine lines.

What can Botox treat?

Botox is best known for its ability to reduce facial wrinkles and fine lines, but the injectable does more than that. At Revive Medical Aesthetics, you can talk to your provider about using Botox to treat:

Dynamic wrinkles

Dynamic wrinkles are a specific subset of wrinkles that develop the more you move your face. Examples of dynamic wrinkles that Botox treats are crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead lines.

Hyperhidrosis

Do you find yourself sweating a lot, particularly under the armpits? Hyperhidrosis is the medical term for excessive underarm sweating. Botox injections stop the nerve signals that stimulate your sweat glands to treat hyperhidrosis.

Chronic migraine

If you get frequent migraines, Botox injections can help reduce their frequency and severity. With regular Botox injections for migraines, you can miss fewer days of work and tolerate your migraines more easily.

How long does it take to see the results of a Botox injection?

Botox doesn’t kick in immediately after an injection. You can expect to wait between three and seven days to see it take effect. You might see some light bruising during this time, but it’s a typical side effect and is no cause for concern.

How long do the results of Botox injections last?

Botox injections don’t last forever. After about four months, you may see your wrinkles or sweating, for example, return as your body absorbs and eliminates the drug. However, that doesn’t mean you have to continue sweating under your arms or staring at wrinkles in the mirror.

If you’re happy with the results of your Botox injections, Revive Medical Aesthetics can deliver another round of treatment. Once you know how long Botox lasts for you, you can book your follow-up appointments regularly for long-lasting effects.
